As Senior in the Valuation team, you will be responsible for supporting the ongoing execution of AlpInvest’s valuation policy and related processes. Your role includes refining and developing valuation methodology and models and ensuring robust internal controls in the execution of these processes. Under the guidance of the Team Lead, you will contribute to the day-to-day operations of various valuation models and systems, focusing on quality control for inputs and outputs, which is critical given the data-driven nature of the valuations.
You will be responsible for performing internal/external valuation reporting, tracking valuation deliverables, and supporting the external audit process concerning valuation estimates and related controls. Working closely with your team, you will ensure the accuracy and integrity of the firm’s valuations and contribute to the ongoing refinement of valuation processes.
Your role requires collaboration with the Valuation Committee, Investment Professionals, Portfolio & Risk Analysis, Investment Accounting, and Compliance and Internal Audit teams within AlpInvest/Carlyle. Additionally, you will interact with our external auditors and valuation service providers.
Key job functions include:
• Monthly Valuation Process (45% of time)
- Assist in the preparation of co-investment and portfolio finance valuations and the day-to-day execution of the fund valuation procedures
- Maintain and update key valuation inputs for use in valuation models, including monitoring key events related to portfolio companies via an external newsfeed
- Coordinate with Investment Accounting and Portfolio & Risk Analysis on valuation committee meetings and monthly/quarterly deliverables
- Prepare monthly deliverables for valuation committee and management
- Identify and develop standard processes to streamline the valuation process and increase efficiency in which valuations are prepared
• Valuation Monitoring, Reporting and Third-Party Review (30% of time)
- Prepare and update monthly fund and investment valuation analytics and reports
- Develop and maintain trending and other key management reports
- Assist in developing valuation-related financial statement disclosures
- Assist in the monitoring of General Partners and assess the appropriateness of fair value methodologies used
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors and valuation specialists on valuations
- Support the internal Assurance team with documentation and Q&A for external auditors’ review of valuations
• Valuation Models/Tools and Technology (25% of time)
- Maintain and update existing valuation models/tools and develop new valuation models
- Monitor and update the Firm’s valuation policy for changes in accounting guidance and/or regulatory changes
- Perform quality control checks on input and output valuation data, and challenge the validity of decisions and assumptions applied in co-investment valuations
- Collaborate with the internal Assurance team to ensure the internal control environment is appropriately designed and updated for valuation process changes

The compensation range for this role is specific to Amsterdam and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to the skill sets required/preferred; prior experience and training; licenses and/or certifications.

Education & Certificates
• CA/CPA/RA qualified (or equivalent)
• Master’s degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting, with excellent results
Professional Experience
• Minimum of four years of relevant work experience, preferably within a Big 4 accounting firm
• Experience with fair value accounting (US GAAP and IFRS)
• Knowledge of equity/debt financial instruments valuation is advantageous
Competencies & Attributes
• Thorough knowledge of US GAAP and/or IFRS valuation concepts
• Strong understanding of internal control frameworks
• Excellent analytical and communication skills (Dutch language skills are not required)
• Highly motivated, organized and detail-orientated
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage multiple priorities
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
The role requires a high level of organization, efficiency, and the ability to manage competing priorities, especially during busy periods. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working both independently and within a team.
