Interesting category management position with a high level global scope focusing on optics products

The Category Manager Optics is the global leader responsible for deploying and driving the procurement category vision with key colleagues.

You will be driving category strategy definition, execution, and implementation. This position will facilitate the development and execution of long-term strategies that will optimize quality, cycle/response time, technology, risk, and total cost. The role will mitigate risk, use technology, improve processes and systems, and reduce the overall cost of ownership and acquisition.

The focus in this position is on complex products within the optics domain (low volume - high mix) such as cameras, detection modules, detection elements, energy filters and laser & lamps.

Key tasks and responsiblities:

  • Develop the sourcing strategy of optic products and services considering price, volume, share and profitability. Ensure product portfolio addresses market needs and continuous improvements where needed to maintain and/or improve market penetration and share position.
  • Conduct voice of the customer activities, assess market trends and competition offerings to develop and implement proactive strategies to strengthen the product line’s business advantage.
  • Define promotional focus areas and sourcing strategy to increase revenue and margin including product pricing with commercial teams.
  • Lead the supplier qualification, RFP, supplier selection, contract development, implementation, compliance, and ongoing supply base management process
  • Synthesize conclusions from R&D and product management to communicate key findings to other key partners and drive action. Evaluate assigned products for obsolescence and communicate recommendations for efficient product management.

In this position you have a lot of interaction with different stakeholders such as R&D, Business Unit Managers and procurement colleagues in the business/division (Division Procurement Partners).

This position will start with an one year contract via YER. After this year you will make a takeover step to a contract at Thermo Fisher.

During this first year YER will offer an yearly salary between: €80.000 and €110.000 (all-in).

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Graduate Degree in Business (Preferred), Finance, and/or Technical field
  • Minimum 7 years’ of procurement/sourcing experience with increasing global responsibility and experience in a large matrixed company environment, minimum 7 years’ experience in the assigned category (optics)
  • Minimum 3 years experience leading and managing procurement teams with a focus on mentoring, coaching and performance management
  • Strong leadership and effective business partnering capabilities – influence without authority
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in a complex organization
  • Strong negotiation and presentation skills
  • Strong knowledge of the strategic sourcing and category management process
  • Strong project management skills
  • Requires ability to deal with ambiguity and the corresponding capacity to make decisions or recommendations based on potentially incomplete information
  • Must be able to work across all functions and levels of an organization
  • International experience (plus) – working experience in different countries/regions/languages
