We are looking for an experienced Project Manager who is able to initiate and lead new-build, innovation, improvement and service projects in relation to the delivery of customer-specific compressor systems within the defined frameworks and conditions.
Howden Thomassen Compressors is a specialist supplier of tailor-made gas compression equipment to various industries. Their products have made a valuable difference for clients for the past 100 years, and we are now looking for a Senior Project Manager New Build who will support Howden in making a valuable difference in the century to come. The Senior Project Manager leads the delivery of engineered-to-order systems to customers in a demanding global and competitive market. The Senior Project Manager is in the drivers’ seat externally and internally. The position is challenging as you should meet customers’ expectations, deliver our key performance indicators and improve the projects’ financial performance whilst managing deviations from the plan arising from daily issues and materialized risks.
What needs to be done?
- Lead projects to ensure On-Time-Delivery of project milestones, stay within or improve budget, and deliver with the contractually agreed quality and Howden standards;
- Lead multi-function project teams, leading by example, even where there is no direct control over resource;
- Deliver improved project execution processes and methodologies;
- Deliver all technical and commercial requirements of the contract;
- Deliver improvement of forecasting accuracy (including Percentage Of Completion updates), reduced variances, Risk & Opportunity management and project margin during project execution;
- Develop lasting relationships with customers & end-users.

- Bachelor degree with if addition a Project Management certification (Prince 2, PMI or similar);
- 5-10 years’ experience in managing large, complex, commercial, customer-facing projects in an engineering to order environment;
- Experienced in leading large teams, with full accountability including financial accountability, across multiple functions, either directly or indirectly;
- Experienced in dealing with international suppliers of large, complex orders/components;
- Experienced in Senior Management-level interactions and negotiations with customers in demanding environments;
- Experience of understanding implications of complex contractual terms and conditions – what team needs to do, potential risk areas and opportunities;
- Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings, specifications and application data;
- We prefer a candidate that has worked on multiple projects with international stakeholders, customers and/ or suppliers;
- Excellent command of the English language;
- A pro-active, solution oriented personality;
- Ability to deal in a professional way with resistance and able to build bridges and to have a healthy debate;
- Being transparent, a no-nonsense mentality, result-driven and a decision maker;
- A team player with a strong customer focus who is constructive critical, assertive, well organized, who has excellent communication skills, is leading by personal power, questions status quo but also provides alternatives, who is doing things first time right and who is able to zoom in and zoom out, from details to a helicopter view and back;
- Willingness to travel up to 20% maximum.
